Composition
Covering all styles of music, Mary demonstrates her ability to write flexibly for any audience, making her song writing very much in demand. She can write for any instrument – check out her suite Village Life for bassoon quartet, coming soon to the resources page. Apart from her solo work, she has composed backing tracks for girl group Serotone and currently writes with guitarist Andy Hedges, jazz duo Astoria’s Lounge and electronic music groups The Sunset Strippers and My Digital Enemy.
Sitting Here, written in 2000, was the first of many emotionally driven creative outbursts and many songs followed. She usually writes the music first and then adds the lyrics afterwards. Her lyrics are rhythmically strong and often rhyme, to add a poetic quality and a touch of the familiar for the listener. Use the music player to have a listen.
